The Washington Post, LA Times, USA Today, NPR, Stewart, Colbert, Fox News and host of U.S. lawmakers receive threatening letters

By Agence France-Presse
Thursday, February 23, 2012

WASHINGTON — Several US lawmakers received threatening letters containing a harmless white powder, but the sender warned more missives including a “harmful material” could follow, a Senate official said.

The news sparked alarm and served as a grim reminder of the 2001 anthrax attacks in which letters containing the deadly pathogen were sent to offices of two Democratic senators and several media offices. Five people were killed.

The anonymous sender “has indicated that additional letters containing a powdery substance will be arriving at more Senate offices,” Senate sergeant-at-arms Terrance Gainer said in a email to staff.

“Some of these letters may contain an actual harmful material,” he added, noting the missives were postmarked from Portland, Oregon.

Similar letters, which included complaints about corporate influence over US politics, also were received by several US media outlets, but they did not contain any white powder, said law enforcement officials quoted by US media.

The letters were received by organizations such as The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Fox News and National Public Radio, reports said.

CBS News quoted a law enforcement official as saying that in missives to comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, the sender warned that 100 letters were sent to the Washington or home-state offices of US senators.

Jon Stewart Named to 9/11 Memorial and Museum board of directors

January 28, 2011 | From Laura Batchelor, CNN

Jon Stewart, host of "The Daily Show," was appointed to the board of directors of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum's board of directors.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the chairman of the board, introduced Stewart to the board during its quarterly meeting this week, according to a news release from the memorial and museum.

Memorial President Joe Daniels explained why Stewart was an obvious choice. "Jon Stewart is an incredibly important figure in today's news media, but he's also a New Yorker who felt -- as we all did -- the world changed in a matter of minutes on September 11.

"Since then, he has taken a definitive stance on so many issues that relate directly to our organization's mission of commemoration and education."

Jon Stewart to Republicans: You Can't Exploit 9/11 Anymore

Tonight, Jon Stewart opened with an impassioned rant against Republicans for blocking a Congressional bill that would've provided health care for 9/11 first responders. Stewart then implored the GOP to never again exploit the attacks for political gain.

Gawker Trashes "Truthers"

Author: Cosmos
Source: 9/11 Truth News
Category: BLOG

Reporting on Jon Stewart's executive producer Rory Albanese being arrested after punching a We Are Change activist in the face, trendy celebrity gossip site Gawker refers to the punched activist as a "typical Truther asshole". The rest of the entry is the usual insipid hate-inspiring trash you might expect from such an uninformed source, with commenters joining in with the likes of "I think it should be completely legal to punch or otherwise assault a 9/11 Truther. And I'm not joking."

Gawker exhibits a hint of a clue when it points out that the incident has been completely unreported in the media: "Pretty amazing, especially given the easy joke to be made by juxtaposing Albanese's arrest with Jon Stewart's huge rally calling on everyone to be nice to each other." Indeed. It should be noted that WAC's ham-fisted confrontation of Stewart and company was met with heavy criticism from many in the 9/11 truth movement. Has sanity been restored yet?

Geithner Visited Jon Stewart in April, Though Not for Laughs
By Ian Katz - Nov 4, 2010

In the midst of debates on financial regulation and China’s currency in April, Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner sat down to discuss the U.S. economy -- with comedian Jon Stewart. Geithner and Stewart, host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” held an off-the-record meeting at Stewart’s office in New York on April 2, according to Geithner’s appointments calendar, updated through August on Treasury’s website.

Geithner didn’t stay for a television interview with Stewart although other administration officials -- most notably President Barack Obama last week -- have turned up for on-camera chats.

While dissing Jon Stewart Bill Maher injects the topic of 9/11 into the mainstream..

(just after the 2 minute mark..)

"When Jon announced his rally, he said the national conversation was dominated by people on the Right who believe Obama’s a Socialist and people on the Left who believe 9/11’s an inside job, but I can’t name any Democratic leaders who think 9/11’s an inside job. But Republican leaders who think Obama’s a Socialist…all of them.”

Daily Show's Jon Stewart's Talk & Book Signing interrupted by "9.11 truthers" in NYC! Jon, "I can't handle it..."

by Priya Warcry on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 7:49pm

On a rainy dark night, I crammed into a standing room only Barnes in Nobles near Union Sq. in NYC to hear The Daily Show's Jon Stewart who appeared with his cast of writers & their new book "Earth: The Book: A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race." Jon was to speak and answer audience questions. While most questions seemed fairly benign, a couple of people started asking more challenging questions about the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001. Jon’s response was revealing.

(911TruthNews) – Attacked by the Left. Attacked by the Right. Attacked by “edgy” political comedians for scant, confused laughs – with no discernible purpose other than to discourage and further isolate those seeking justice. No matter if their political affiliation is Coke, or whether they lean hard towards Pepsi, everyone in the corporate mainstream media can agree that 9/11 truth is a target worthy of derision.

Yet, strangely, none of them can seem to get their story straight.

Dick Uncut: "Daily Show" Calls Out Cheney For Blaming 9/11 On Richard Clarke (VIDEO)

Text posted in full for posterity- follow the links for video of DailyShow at HuffPo link, and link to ThinkProgress, which has one of their rare good articles, taking apart Cheney's comments- with video of Cheney- direct link to ThinkProgress below:

At a recent appearance at the National Press Club, Dick Cheney blamed Richard Clarke for leaving the nation vulnerable to attack ahead of 9/11 saying, "He obviously missed it." Cheney was referring to the threat from al Qaeda which Clarke had emphatically warned the administration about several times before the fall of 2001.

Jon Stewart was not pleased with Dick Cheney for these accusations, nor the members of the National Press Club who failed to challenge him about the assertion. In a segment called "Dick Uncut," Stewart used dark humor to take both the former Vice President and the media to task for the events leading up to 9/11 through the waterboarding of detainees. It simultaneously makes you laugh and want to punch a whole through the wall.

Philip Sheldon Tells Jon Stewart That The 9/11 Commission Report Was Beautifully Written

Tuesday February 12, 2008
Jon Stewart hosted New York Times author Philip Shenon on Monday night to discuss his new book, The Commission: An Uncensored history of the 9/11 Commission where he, Shenon, credits Philip Zelicow, 9/11 Commission Director, for the 9/11 Commission Report which he says "is in many ways the most definitive account Of 9/11" and "is easily the most beautifully written government document of our lifetimes, and Zelicow is largely responsible for that fact, but there's alot of things they missed . . . . barf ad nauseam."
