Lifting the Veil

A little shameless self-promotion to tweak your interest...

"Lifting the Veil is the long overdue film that powerfully, definitively, and finally exposes the deadly 21st century hypocrisy of U.S. internal and external policies, even as it imbues the viewer with a sense of urgency and an actualized hope to bring about real systemic change while there is yet time for humanity and this planet. See this film!"

Larry Pinkney
The Black Commentator

“Lifting the Veil is a major contribution to political documentary. It teaches everyone from the uninitiated to the most sophisticated the true nature of the American government... It covers the issues clearly and succinctly, from the opening narrative through to its stirring conclusion.”

Ralph Poynter
lynne stewart defense committee
new abolitionist movement

"The best political film I've seen to date. A must watch if you want to understand who and what Obama is about, as well as this hypocrisy they call democracy."

Kiilu Nyasha
Independent Journalist and former member of the Black Panther Party

"Noble is brilliantly pioneering the new film-making -- incisive analysis, compelling sound and footage, fearless and independent reporting, and the aggregation of the best information out there into powerful, educational and free online feature films – all on a shoestring budget. His films educate and inform while building the movements needed for real change at the grassroots. Noble's films are dedicated to democracy; they fan the flames of non-violent, people-powered revolution."

-------

Here’s a film I put together in my off-time over the last month. I call it “Lifting the Veil” (Barack Obama and the failure of capitalist ‘democracy’).

The title is a literal translation of the word “Apocalypse”. I’m not really into mystical prophecy, but I like the idea of a “global awakening” as opposed to a global conflagration.

I had originally intended this to be a short film but the crimes of the Obama administration are so vast that I decided it required full-length treatment.

The film is part documentary, part info-tainment music video, part news compilation, and includes both original and non-original interviews. It’s not really part of my “official” documentary series, so I created a new section on my website called “compilations”.

Original interview footage derives from:

Noam Chomsky, Michael Parenti, Michael Albert (Znet), John Stauber (PR Watch), Sharon Smith (Historian), William I. Robinson (Editor, Critical Globalization Studies), Morris Berman (Author, Dark Ages America), and famed black panther Larry Pinkney, who is quoted above.

[Pinkney was viciously persecuted by the FBI during the COINTELPRO era for his belief that all races should unite in opposition to the ruling class. His FBI file states: "Pinkney is potentially dangerous due to his demonstrated ability to unify black and white. His associates are Negro, White, and Chinese. Special attention is being given to neutralizing him.” He wound up in prison on a trumped up charge, and remains the only American to have successfully self-authored his civil/political rights case to the United Nations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. I will be featuring more of my interview with Pinkney in an upcoming film on COINTELPRO.]

Non-original interviews/lectures include:

Michael Hudson, Paul Craig Roberts, Ted Rall, Richard Wolff, Glen Ford, Lewis Black, George Carlin, Glenn Greenwald, Gerald Cliente, Chris Hedges, John Pilger, Bernie Sanders, Sheldon Wollin and Martin Luther King.

There is nothing particularly revelatory here for the politically astute. The film is mostly geared towards people who still think of voting as the primary path to reform, as well as individuals who perceive Obama as some sort of “progressive” looking out for the interests of the “common” man.

I had some fun with the opening minutes, as you’ll see, but the film becomes more serious as it progresses; the entire middle section is devoted to the continuation under Obama of the 911 wars and related policies. Be warned: this section includes disturbing imagery. I end on a hopeful note.

Although I consider this the least controversial of my films, if it goes viral it will undoubtedly be met with a good deal of hostility and negative commentary. Illusions die hard, and it’s not easy to admit that the current political system is basically unsalvageable. That would require doing something. And that’s the hope.

If you like the film please download and submit to other share sites in the event that this link dies.

Please also link to http://metanoia-films.org/compilations.php where I hope to maintain a functioning
download link.

So far, LTV has been featured on the Counterpunch, Global Research, Information Clearing House, Black Commentator, Black Agenda Report, and the Black Activist Writer’s Guild. Chris Hedges enjoyed it and should be posting it on Truth Dig as well.

However I’d also like to see it posted on Daily Kos, Democratic Underground, Common Dreams and other “mainstream” “liberal” and “progressive” websites. So if anyone reading has an account at one or more of these, please post!

Thanks!

P.S. Jon Gold makes a brief cameo in the closing minutes.

Another "MASTERWORK"

from the maker of "PSYWAR" and "HUMAN RESOURCES"

This came recommended today: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/psywar/

A very valuable documentary

A peerless dissection of the Obama adminstration and US political system. Nothing in my opinion comes close.

John Pilger and Chris Hedges towards the end, sublime.

Thanks Scott.

John Pilger and Chris Hedges should take that final step...

and proclaim what we all know.

I've posted Hedges here before on 911blogger thinking he might find us and get the hint.

http://911blogger.com/search/node/%22chris%2Bhedges%22

By the way; this should be FRONT PAGE.

Great job Scott...

Pilger and Hedges are great. Thanks for the "cameo."

Thanks guys

Yes I would appreciate some time on the front page as I know a lot of disparate people visit this website. Although the film is not directly related to 911, it does show in great detail the extent that Obama has embraced the 911 wars and related assaults on civil liberties.

...

Someone has uploaded to youtube.

Also quite a few torrents floating around. Unfortunately not much action on the political forums yet. View count on Vimeo is only at about 5,000.

That would be...

Dem Bruce Lee Styles who used to be active here.

Can't view on Youtube from my location outside North America

I get this message: This video contains content from WMG and Sony Music Entertainment, one or more of whom have blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

Another great one, Danse...

This movie is powerful. I can see it giving those still clinging to faith in Obama the ammo they need to break free, if only they'd sit down and take it all in. What you did with Hedges' brilliant 'Hope' speech was extremely moving. You sure know how to end a movie, my man. Looking forward to what's next.

Oh, and I would like to add my vote for front-paging this post. Having original voices like Danse is what makes 911blogger a great place to be.

I also feel this is front page

This film is an excellent dissemination piece for any audience.

Great film: I put it on Examiner.com

Excellent work, Scott. The "emperor has no clothes" lies in war, torture, indefinite detention, extrajudicial assassination, and economic criminal fraud will rip-open all other lies, including the "Big Lies."

I'm framing the proper political response from Americans as revolution through standing against these obvious crimes and standing for lawful response under the US Constitution.

What I wrote is here: http://www.examiner.com/nonpartisan-in-national/obama-continues-escalate...

Thanks Synergist

I am much more partial to the anti-Federalists and the Iroquois Federation in terms of viable models; most of the Founding Fathers were very anti-democratic and elitist. The bill of rights had to be "rammed down their throats" by the anti-Federalists, as historian John Manley put it. My film Psywar goes into this in considerable detail. However, it's up to you Americans, not an outside observer, to decide how to fix your system.

I also realize that most Americans are terrified of the word "socialism". I struggled with the decision over whether to even use the word in the film. If we're referring to the communist dictatorships that arose in the 20th C then that fear is entirely justified. But LTV also argues that centralized power and unaccountable state bureaucracies are antithetical to democracy.

Interestingly, polls show that most Americans support economic policies which are more inline with the Social democracies of the Scandinavian countries than the mythical "free market" of the Tea Party; however, when the word "socialist" is used to describe the same policies, support drops dramatically. This indicates that at least part of problem is an irrational fear cultivated by decades of corporate propaganda.

I do not believe it possible to have "libertarianism" without some degree of "socialism", and vice versa. In fact I refer to myself as a libertarian socialist. Both Marxists and right wing libertarians describe this term as an Oxymoron. Yet studies of hunter-gatherer societies show that it is indeed possible to have a high degree (perhaps the highest degree) of individual liberty combined with a high degree of public ownership. This makes sense, since public ownership (by the actual public, not a strong centralized state) demands participation by the owners.

My view is that both libertarians and Marxists are blind in one eye; Marxists recognize the coercive power of the market; libertarians recognize the coercive power of the state.

In my view the solution has to involve decentralization of power combined with real, participatory democracy. "Representative democracy" or polyarchy, whereby we elect politicians to make decisions for us, clearly doesn't work. When you add immense wealth disparities and the tyrannical corporate form, it becomes a complete disaster. And that's where we're at. The disaster is most acute in America, but it's really a worldwide problem.

Thanks for your insight.

Thanks for your insight.

While I was watching your film

I saw Richard Wolffe for the first time. I was struck immediately so I looked up the presentation you excerpted for your latest project... which is another bullseye hit, IMO.

Wolffe has the ability to convey economic and sociopolitical realities like Ruppert has. And remember, I knew that the economic crash was coming because Ruppert was warning everybody already in 2004, and his warnings were very specific, and right on the money. (pun intended)

So... Mike Ruppert deserves credit for giving many people the right information at the right moment. Hopefully his actions saved some people from foreclosure.

Great job

Danse.

I support the motion for "front page".

Thanks all

Appreciate all of your comments

Great compilation, Danse.

Your documentaries are all really eye-openers!

I agree, this is a great tool, and it should be front page!

Veterans for Peace

Just got a very nice email from Leah Bolger of Veteran's for Peace

I just finished watching your wonderful and powerful film, “Lifting the Veil,” and wanted to express my appreciation and gratitude. I thought it was very comprehensive, and of course, I was particularly pleased to see the Veterans For Peace flag and our membership in many scenes. I hope that you will add our organization to the links on your website: www.veteransforpeace.org. I can assure you that our organization will support and advocate for this film as best we can.

She is a nice person...

And someone I've been trying to reach with regards to 9/11. I think I opened her eyes a bit.

Excellent Film!!!

Dear Scott Nobel,

I have to say that "Lifting The Veil" is a excellent film. Apart from the important information your film imparts, it has an engaging and compelling flow. It is very well edited.

Your film reaches its desired climaxes at just the right moments and it is never confusing or convoluted. As can so often occur in the documentary format, the message can become unpalatable because of poor presentation. Your film makes its case with simplicity.

"Lifting The Veil" is a disturbing and moving film but it also reserves a enough time for some perceptive Irish humour. Humour is a very important weapon against tyranny and fear.

I hope that many people get the chance to see this documentary.

Thank You Nick Mollo

Danse

there's a company here in the UK called John Lewis where basically the owning family decided they were already rich enough and made all the employees partners

the service you get in a John Lewis department store is legendary as the workers really care and turnover of employees is low

Amazing, inspiring

documentary

A time comes when the logical thing to do is stand up.

Brilliant documentary, thanks Scott Noble

I am new to this board, but would like to add my congratulations to Noble on this excellent doccie.

With your beautifully selected visual, musical and historical references, you deepen and refine the message. You give us the language with which to describe what's going on - you bring our attention (distracted by Charlie Sheen, consumerism and the daily grind) into focus, to bear on what is really happening about us.

This deserves a wide audience. I will be doing my part to bring this documentary to greater attention. Are you submitting it to any movie/documentary festivals?

Important reminder of Obama's promises

This video includes important reminders of President Obama's campaign promises, which shows how many he broke.

Thanks again

Thanks again for the words of support and thanks especially to Orangutan for posting on other forums.

In answer to the question re film festivals -- no -- I don't intend to submit to any. You have to wait several months before sharing with a wider audience; also, my films are always a little rough around the edges. So I don't see the point.
